Analysing Analogy

چکیده

Analogical reasoning is one of the most important techniques used by people, yet it has proved very difficult to represent the process in formal terms amenable to operational implementation in computer algorithms. In this paper we analyse the concept of an analogy and its application to reasoning processes. An analogy is seen to be a partial correspondence between two sYstems. In representing it in map-theoretic terms a third system naturally arises which may be injected into each of the others to represent the part lal correspondence. This system may be called an 'analogy' system capturing the particular analogy under consideration. We then go on to consider multiple analogies between two systems and their inter-relationships and show that these form a semi-lattice with a truth-system as the minimal element. Because analogies are between systems with structure they have to capture the transformations that define the structure rather than just the elements of the systems. Hence the systems themselves are most simply represented as categories and the mappings as faithful fun(".tors between them. In this paper we give not only the formal theory but a number of systemic and programming examples to illustrate our analysis.

In the present paper are analysing the conditions for the validity of the Tsallis Statistics. The same have been doing following the analogy with the traditional case: starting from the microcanonical description of the systems and analysing the scaling properties of the fundamental macroscopic observables in the Thermodynamic Limit. It is shown that the Generalized Legendre Formalism in the Ts...

Architectural design inspired by nature is one of the conventional methods in architectural design, but different types of the influence of nature on architectural design are not well studied yet. Analogy in Farabi's Thought

Thinkers and philosophers have constantly benefited from different         approaches of reasoning to explore and justify their ideas. Theses reasoning            approaches are considered as the principle instruments in speculative activities of the thinkers. To this end to achieve the procedure of thinking and the way philosophers achieve objectives, it is necessary to recognize their reasoni...

Architects and Engineers Differences: A comparison between problem solving performances of architects and engineers in the ideation phase of an analogy-based design

This study examines how analogy affects problem-solving in ideation phase of design among architects and engineers. For this purpose, a design problem was given to master and Ph.D. students of engineering and architecture. They were given two optional analogy sources to choose and be inspired by one. From the analysis of design sessions, using different coding groups and the application of the ...

Steady Flow Analysis and Modeling of the Gas Distribution Network Using the Electrical Analogy (RESEARCH NOTE)

The mathematical modeling of a gas network is a powerful tool in order to identify the behavior of system under the different conditions. The modeling can be performed both for the steady state and unsteady state conditions. It is possible to use the fluid flow basic governing equations or the electrical analogy concept for developing the model. The second approach provides a simpler and more r...
